[Community Organizing, since
June 2018]
Overview: Portland Through a Latinx Lens - Leading a collective that amplifies the expression of Latinx peoples’ lives and stories through various formats and mediums. We strive to genuinely and actively share the depth of our culture, history, and presence in Portland and across the PNW.

About: Portland Through a Latinx Lens started as a collective because a group of friends and I noticed there was a lack of storytelling coming directly from our community, and we wanted to establish a sense of belonging that was led by us, for us. Since forming, as a co-founder + the group’s project coordinator, we created two zines, led a breadth of free workshops, and gathered ~40 stories that highlight the diversity and breadth of experiences in our community.
Focus: Through a series of workshops and events, interviews, and rotating art galleries we will engage with and promote the expression of stories from a variety of Latinx individuals. Additionally, these vignettes will be hosted online to encourage submissions from the greater Latinx community. These mediums will serve as a conduit to amplify the voice of the Latinx people in Portland — highlighting their lives, challenges, joy, passions, and grit.
Funding: I was able to secure ~$6k in funding for programming, from SE Uplift Neighborhood Coalition, Emily Georges Gottfried Fund, and Oregon Humanities.
