Public Speaking and Other
Stuff [Workshop, Sept 2021]

Supporting a group of teens with developing their public speaking comfort.

In September 2019, I was contracted by the Oregon School-Based Health Alliance (OSBHA) to lead a workshop for six high school students, ages 15-18 with limited public speaking experience, in preparation for the statewide youth conference they were coordinating in Salem, OR.

The workshop covered:

  1. How to effectively talk to a diverse group of people, including the power of storytelling, personal anecdotes, passion, and games/activities.

  2. Creating positive energy for the day.

  3. How to be clear and concise when giving directions.

  4. What to do about stage fright, with an emphasis on shared responsibilities, asking the audience for support, cue cards, and more.

  5. How to effectively facilitate large groups of people.
